Artz...with a z?
Hello! I'm Emily, an artist and designer based in Charleston, SC. When I'm not moonlighting as a homeschool mom and private Uber driver for my children, I'm usually playing with shapes and colors and words.
I create art for the home and for growing families, and sometimes apply my designs to practical items that are kid and family-approved.
(P.S. I only sell products that I use and love and recommend to others).
Contrary to popular belief, Artz actually is my middle name! I think it means 'doctor' in German, and I use 'popular' loosely here, but don't tell my kids because for some reason they think I'm famous.
I'm in awe of both the natural visible world and the invisible one. As St. Thomas Aquinas said "Creation is God's primary word." Play is an integral part of my process, but faith steers my work.

How I work
As an artist, I often bounce back and forth between illustration and abstract work. Having grown up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, subjects that follow me wherever I go are folky houses, rivers, trees, mountains, animals, birds, and flowers.
As a designer, I tend to explore a wide range of styles. Rich colors and collage-inspired compositions tend to show up repeatedly. I move fluidly between traditional and digital spaces, sometimes blurring the lines between the two realms.
When I'm feeling bold, I'll dabble in poetry and sometimes weave it into my artwork. One day, I'll illustrate all the children's books I have swirling in my head.
All work is original. I offer open, limited and one-of-a-kind works of art, as well as occasional products adorned with original surface pattern designs. I look forward to reading my own books to my grandchildren.
